Directions:To get there from Dallas: · Take I-35E south to the US-77 exit, which is the first exit past the 35E/35W merge · Turn right (West) on US-77 and follow the road into the Hillsboro town square. You know you are in the town square when you see the courthouse. · From the Hillsboro town square, take SH-22 West to Whitney, there are quite a few signs that should guide you safely through town. · Once you get into Whitney, things get a bit tricky. There are a couple of ways to do this. Both options assume you are heading west on SH-22 from Hillsboro:
· Route #1: You will want to go north on FM933. These two roads meet at the only traffic light along SH-22 in Whitney. When you get to the light, turn north. Be aware that FM933 takes a hard right, followed by a hard left after about 1/2 mile. · Route #2: You turned off before you get to FM933. About 1/2 mile after you get into town, SH-22 takes a turn to the south (left). Look for a Chevron gas station and a Dairy Queen. At that intersection you can keep going straight on E. Jefferson Ave. It runs into FM933. Turn right (north) onto FM933.
· Once out of Whitney, follow FM933 about 2 miles to FM1713. By this point , you should start seeing signs for McCown Valley Park (the brown Corps of Engineers type signs) · Turn left (west) on FM1713 and go about 2 more miles · FM1713 will take a turn towards the NW and cross the lake. You don't want to go that way. You want to go straight on "FM1713" (yes, it's two roads with the same name). If you cross the lake, turn around, you went the wrong way · Look for the entrance to the camping area. If you go too far, you'll be in the day use area, but either way, you've reached McCown Valley Park. |
