Learn to Windsurf
The Learn to Windsurf days are open to anyone and are designed to allow first time windsurfers to give the sport a try.

The Club, in conjunction with Mariner Sails provides all the equipment you need, all you need to
do is show up and bring an open mind. The instructors are NTWR club members. The cost is $20 which
we use to cover some Club costs, the rest we donate to charity. The day is open to all ages, young,
old and in the middle, and the lessons are in a low pressure environment.
The lessons include:
-
An introduction to the principles of windsurfing
-
Practice runs using a land trainer (if it is available) to give students a chance to feel how the wind works with the sails
-
Practice time on the water

On the water the students use big, floaty boards with small sails supplied by Mariner Sails. This
equipment ensures they can get their balance on the boards, control the sails, and learn to get the hang of things on the water.
The lessons usually take a few hours and get students to a position where they are comfortable
getting on the board, uphauling the sail and sailing back and forth under their own control. It is not
a very strenuous activity, so students do not have to be in super shape to give it a try. In fact, we have
seen folks over 70 years old start the sport and love it.
Windsurfing is great for kids!
Give your child the gift of a sport that's exciting, safe and fun to grow with. We have school
equipment designed just for kids too, so bring them along !!
Strength is not an issue
Strength is not an issue, windsurfing is more finesse and technique than brute strength. Students are
required to notify us of any Medical or Physical condition that may put them at risk during the lessons.
Don't forget some footwear
Protective footgear you dont mind getting wet is a must. Windsurfing itself is not hard on your feet
but sharp or dangerous objects on the beach or underwater can cause injury. Bring an appropriate swim suit
and dont forget your sunscreen and water. Well provide the rest..... including a rope so you don't sail
of into the sunset until you want to. See you on the water!
